"The Maddening" - January 2003

A knife jabs in my side,
I know I’m in for a turbulent ride.
Pain traveling back, side, ribs and heart,
I pray to God that it will part.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday through,
It’s agony.  Nothing new.
Separate that pain from body and spirit,
In God’s vast love, I ought not fear it.
Pill, or heat, pillow or song,
It’s a temporary diversion that lasts not long.
A prayer that release is somewhere near;
With God’s strength, I work past the pain and tears.
